"My name is Aishath Shirmeen, I am from Maldives and have been working in the Maldives National University, Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies for the past 15 years.
For the LABOUR project , I have collaborated with the ISCTE Lisbon University’s, Business School's Anthropology Department. The staff was helpful, especially our supervisor Antónia Pedroso de Lima. With my two other colleagues, we conducted a one-day workshop for Ph.D. students to prepare for their final presentation and conducted a seminar about the Maldives' Tourism development and challenges with the assistance of ISCTE-IUL.
Apart from these works, I have volunteered in the ISCTE-IUL initiated project “Portugal Multi-Cultural Academy Association”, where they serve as the framework for projects that are pertinent to other fields where the world today calls for the fostering or strengthening of intercultural dialogue. Being around other anthropologists helped me gain a deeper understanding of the goals, principles, and tools that underpin the discipline's various areas of expertise. I also got the chance to work with the Portugal multicultural community that promotes opportunities and spaces for migrants and communities to come together and share their inspirational stories."
